Protecting Your Home from Fall Pests

Don’t Let Pests Make Your House Their Home

When the fall months roll around and the temperature starts to drop, it’s time to turn on your heater, grab a blanket, and cozy up inside. Although, you might not be the only one planning on cozying up in your home. Pests and bugs might begin to find their way into your warm home, too. This is why it’s very important to take precautions, so your home does not become a safe haven for them in the fall and winter months.

Seal Your Home

As the temperature steadily gets cooler and cooler, pests will find it more difficult to find food, water, and shelter outside. This is why they can make a move to invade your space to search for resources. Sealing your home will stop that! Make sure that you seal off cracks around windows and doors and also look for any cracks in your walls or roof.

Break Bad Habits

There are a few things you could be doing that are attracting pests to your property. This includes keeping firewood next to your home that attracts wood-boring pests. Store firewood at least three feet from your home! If you keep recycling bins in your home or garage and there are remnants of soda and other food, this can attract ants. Make sure that you always completely clean out your recyclable items.

Inspect Your Crawlspaces and Basement

You should look for nests of shredded material which could indicate rodents, ants, or cockroaches. Also, make sure that you don’t have piles of paper or fabric sitting around in your basement. This could be an attractive home to pests!
